Microgrid

Energy dispatch and battery protection

Microgrid

PV, a battery, a building and the utility share one AC bus. Switch to island mode after dark, plug in an EV and see how the system copes.

What it shows

  • Grid-tie, island and shutdown modes
  • Load shedding and PV curtailment
  • Thermal derating and battery trips
  • A live single-line diagram

Built with

  • MACS Studio library blocks
  • MDN Control Panel

The system

A 40 kW PV array, a 200 kWh / 30 kW battery, the building and the utility share one AC bus. The building has an evening peak and an optional 11 kW EV charger. A simulated day lasts six minutes.

Three operating modes

Mode What it does
Grid-tie The battery stores PV surplus and covers the deficit while keeping its backup reserve. The grid takes the rest
Island The grid breaker opens and the battery alone balances the bus, down to 5 %. When it can't, load is shed or PV is curtailed
Shutdown The PV and battery breakers open, and the building runs from the grid

Battery protection

The fan starts at 40 °C. Above 45 °C the power is derated, reaching zero at 65 °C, and at 50 °C the battery trips and its breaker opens. You can inject a fan fault from the dashboard and watch it happen.

Built from library blocks

The dispatch logic is wired from MACS Studio's library blocks, and the dashboard draws the result: breakers open and close, lines flow with the power, and the battery fills. Cell voltages, temperature, today's energy and an event log sit alongside it.

This is a simulation, built to show what MACS can do.
